T1 Lines for Enterprise

The Challenge
A large cable system operator provides service to both residential and commercial customers. While the greatest recent growth in service demand has been for Metro Ethernet, many business customers still require a traditional T1 connection, often to backhaul PBX traffic to the phone network. The cable company needed a way to deliver T1 services over their fiber optic network. And to compete with the telcos and wireless providers, the cable operator needed to keep costs down. Among other things, that meant installing managed equipment to reduce service calls.

The Solution
B&B electronics recommended the iMcV-FiberLinX-II intelligent demarcation module, and the iMcV-T1/E1 module. The iMcV-FiberLinX-II connects a host/remote network over fiber optics. It combines copper to fiber media conversion with a built-in IP stack and integrated troubleshooting features. Advanced features include traffic prioritization and bandwidth VLAN tagging, including extra tagging. Host management traffic is invisible to the remote and customer network. Access to the customer network is not required, guaranteeing end-to-end data integrity.

The iMcV-T1/E1 takes a T1 or E1 signal through a standard RJ-48 connector and converts the signal for single-mode fiber. The T1 signal can travel up to 80 km on the fiber from the cable operator's central office to the customer's location, where it is converted back to copper to provide the customer with a demarcation point.
