Connecting the Sony Clié to a Serial Port
Sony has two sets of Clié models,
and each uses different cables. The PEG-N Series and
PEG-S Series use the same serial cable while the PEG-NR
Series, PEG-T Series, PEG-SL Series. The
PEG-SJ Series use a different serial cable.
These cables, available from Clié dealers,
bring the Clié serial port out to a DB9 female connector,
configured as a DCE
device. This allows the cable to be connected directly to
a PC's serial port, which is configured as DTE.
This family of Palm devices supports
lines TD,
RD,
RTS
and DCE
in addition to a non-standard support of DTR. These signals
work at RS-232 compatible signal levels of ±5 volts. A USB
cradle or cable for a Clié handheld cannot control another
USB peripheral device. The Clié Hotsync® cradle is configured
as a DCE device. Most likely, the device you are connecting
to is also configured as DCE, so you will need to make a male
to male null modem connection.
