These converters let you connect your GPS or other marine equipment to any RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 device. NMEA0183 is a standard describing both the electrical characteristics and the software protocol used for interfacing electronic marine navigational devices. Version 1.x, the original standard, is an unbalanced signal, similar to RS-232, but with higher current handling capabilites and optical isolation on the receive line. The newer standard, version 2.0 and above, uses an RS-422 transmitter combined with an optically isolated receiver The 183COR converts one NMEA0183 version 1.x data signal to either RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485. It also converts one data signal coming from any of the three EIA specifications to NMEA0183 voltage levels. The RS-232, 422, and 485 signals are provided on the same DB25 female connector, and the NMEA0183 signals are provided on a DB25 male connector. The unit is powered externally by a 12 to 30 VDC power supply (not included) on a pair of pigtail wires. Specifications - Standards supported: NMEA0183 Version 1.x to EIA RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485
