(815) 433-5100 x224 e-mail: jhalpin@bb-elec.com August 15, 2006 For Immediate Release: New USB converters connect PCs and laptops to legacy serial devices Get the extended range and multi-drop capability of RS-232 or RS-422/485 from the USB port of your PC. Models USOPTL4 and USPTL4, designed and manufactured by B&B Electronics, are USB to one-port RS-422/485 converters. Supporting 2-wire RS-485 or 4-wire RS-422/485 communications, these devices are great for applications requiring long range or multi-drop capabilities. “These converters make it economical and easy to connect today’s PCs and laptops to expensive legacy test equipment or instrumentation with serial ports,” explains Mike Fahrion, B&B Electronics Director of Engineering. Both converters have pluggable terminal blocks on the RS-422/485 side and LEDs for transmit and receive lines. These converters draw power from the USB port, so no power supply is required. Model USOPTL4 adds 2000 volts optical isolation against surges, ground loops and voltage spikes on the network. Simply plug the converter into an available USB port on your computer or USB hub. Windows automatically configures the output as an additional COM port, compatible with your Windows applications. With over 25 years on the job, B&B Electronics offers you complete industrial automation device networking solutions. - END - This copy and a high resolution photo are available on our website at www.bb-elec.com/press_releases/usbConverters.html Please contact me if we can be of any further information on PC based data communications.
