Free Palm™ PDA Software for Field Measurements	

October 28, 2002 - PDA's are a standard accessory for
technical people on-the-go.  But with a built-in serial port and
customizable touch-screen, the Palm™ PDA has a lot more
potential than being a simple information manager. With the
right software and a simple hardware interface, your PDA
can be a custom instrument for most any application.

Install Syphon™ freeware from B&B Electronics onto your
Palm PDA to turn your PDA into a measurement and control
instrument with graphical capabilities. Up to eleven analog and
three digital inputs can be displayed. And you can control
three digital outputs. Data can be displayed in numeric, gauge
or graph form. Longer term trends can be monitored using
graphing. Syphon uses the popular 232SDA12 I/O module and
a special serial cable from B&B Electronics to create a
complete measurement solution for under $100.

Compatible with all Palm™ PDA's running OS 3.5 or newer,
Syphon software gets you up and running without having to
write your own custom application. The user can configure
the name, scaling, units and resolution of each of the eleven
12-bit analog input channels. The digital inputs and outputs are
equally easy to handle. "Lights" on the screen tell you if your
input is on or off. Tap the output "light" to toggle each digital
output.
