Market Survey Released: Wireless Mesh Networking is Coming on Strong

Ottawa, IL - A recent survey of industrial production engineers by B&B Electronics and Sensicast Systems showed almost 2/3rds of them have researched wireless sensors for industrial monitoring applications. Almost half of the respondents are considering deploying wireless sensors this year.

“A key factor is the cost of hard wiring sensors,” said Mike Fahrion of B&B Electronics, which was presented at National Manufacturing Week in Chicago. “The survey confirmed an expected benefit from the wireless installations- over 50% of the respondents said they would save from $51 to $250 per sensor by eliminating cabling and its related labor costs.”

“The study showed us that wireless sensor applications will take a quantum leap during 2005 and 2006. The survey indicated that IEEE 802.15.4 “ZigBee” systems will be a major part of that expansion due to its easy application in mesh network systems,” said Fahrion.
