Industrial Ethernet Switches, Hubs, Servers, Adapters, Converters,
Data Acquisition, Accessories and Tech Data

The power of an Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) is tremendous when applied to a factory floor or other industrial application. But industrial applications often require special hardware to interface from existing equipment to the LAN. Harsh industrial conditions, ground differentials and electrical noise can present challenges for standard Ethernet LANs. DIN rail mountable, ruggedized and isolated Industrial Ethernet switches, hubs, servers and converters from B&B Electronics successfully address these challenges. And B&B Electronics provides telephone and email support for these products, as well as technical information on their website.

Ethernet Quick Facts

Ethernet is the common name for a local area network (LAN) defined by a series of IEEE 802 standards. Ethernet sends data across the network in packets. All nodes monitor traffic on the network and can only transmit when data is not present. Ethernet LANs can be connected via co-axial cable, twisted pair cable, fiber optics or wireless links. Data speeds and distance vary according to the type of media used. TCP/IP is the most common higher-level protocol suite used with Ethernet LANs.

Ethernet Tech Tip: Adding an Ethernet switch to a LAN divides the network into separate collision domains, reducing the overall traffic on the LAN, improving communication speed and reducing errors.

Typical Data rates: 10BASE-T: 10 Mbps
10 BASE -FL: 10 Mbps
100 BASE -T: 100 Mbps
Gigabit Ethernet: 1000 Mbps
Cabling Requirements: 10/100 BASE -T: Category 5 UTP cable
1000BASE-CX: Twinax cable
10BASE-FL: Fiber optic cable

Benefits of Using Ethernet Equipment:

  • Allows the use of ubiquitous, low-cost and well-understood technology and software
  • Ethernet interfacing equipment such as serial servers bring the TCP/IP platform to industrial systems and allows legacy equipment to be cost-effectively networked.
