Don't Be Intimidated by IoT Tech – Just Use it Where You Need It

Stan SimmonsYou don't have to uproot your existing infrastructure to take advantage of the new IoT technologies.  IoT tech is designed to be fully interoperable with whatever you already have in place. You can add as much or as little as meets your current needs. You can also add more IoT later, whenever and wherever you feel that it makes sense.

At the city waterworks in South Beloit, IL, for example, the operators simply wanted to upgrade the remote monitoring of the flow meters on their digesters. They didn’t tear their entire system apart; they simply replaced their ageing 900 mHz radios with wireless IoT nodes. The new IoT tech was more cost effective and more reliable, and it was very easy to deploy. Meanwhile, the rest of their network continued to function as usual.

You can do the same kind of thing. Perhaps there is some useful data that you can't currently collect.  Perhaps you have equipment that can't easily report data to your controlling applications. And perhaps you simply have some data connectivity equipment that is reaching the end of its useful life. IoT can solve your problem without interrupting your operations or busting your budget.
